Cosmos in Bloom – A Touch of Elegance on the Farm

We’re super excited to share some happy news from the paddock—our test patch of Cosmos flowers has started to bloom! These delicate beauties have added a graceful splash of colour to G’s Lane, swaying gently in the breeze and shining with their soft, elegant charm.

We planted Cosmos for a couple of reasons—their stunning visual appeal and their bee-attracting magic. They’ve certainly delivered on both fronts. And as a bonus, they make a perfect companion flower in a vase alongside our Proteas, bringing a lovely contrast in both texture and tone.

A couple of months ago, we started prepping the space for our test bed. We kept things pretty simple and hands-on. First, we marked out and cleared the beds, removing grass and weeds to give the Cosmos the best start possible. Our soil here in Esk has a habit of forming a hard crust, which can be tough on little seedlings, so we added a light layer of garden soil on top of the natural ground—just enough to help those tiny seeds break through.

Sowing was delightfully low-tech: we scattered the Cosmos seeds by hand, gave them a gentle mix into the soil with a brush of the hand, and then left the rest to nature. No irrigation—just the rain and sunshine doing their thing.

Watching these first blooms arrive has been incredibly rewarding. There's something about seeing a simple plan come to life in such a vibrant way. We're already dreaming up where the next patch might go and how we can bring more of these airy, bee-friendly blooms to G’s Lane.

Stay tuned—there’s always something growing around here.

Warm wishes,

The team at G’s Lane
