Fingers Lime

Growing Goodness: The Journey of Our Finger Lime Patch at G’s Lane

Our Finger Lime patch has been quietly transforming over the past couple of years—and what a journey it’s been so far!

We first planted the majority of our trees in September 2022. After clearing the grass from the area, we carefully dug in each tree, staked them for support, and bagged them to protect against curious wildlife. Like all new beginnings, there was a mix of excitement and nerves as we watched and waited.

In 2023, we expanded the patch with another row—this time featuring a different colour variety. As the trees settled in, we kept a close eye on their growth. But as 2024 unfolded, we noticed something wasn’t quite right. The trees had lost their vibrant green colour and were looking a little tired.

That’s when our good friend, Jules Cradick, came to the rescue. With her hard work and guidance, we cleared the grass around each tree and gave them a much-needed feed of "Bush Tucker" by Neutrog —a native plant fertilizer designed for Aussie natives like the Finger Lime. And it worked! The trees perked up, their colour returned, and they looked much happier with a bit of love and attention.

We repeated the Bush Tucker feed again in late 2024, though this time, we chose not to reapply mulch.

Now, in June 2025, we've taken the next step forward. We’ve removed more grass and weeds from around each plant, fed them again with Bush Tucker, and this time added a fresh layer of mulch. During our last two maintenance sessions, we also did some light trimming—clearing the lower limbs to encourage stronger growth and better airflow around the trunk.

It’s been a gradual process, but we’re proud of how far the patch has come. The trees are thriving, and we’re learning more with each season. We’re excited to see what the next chapter brings for our Finger Limes—and we can’t wait to share the fruits of this journey with you.

Until next time,
The team at G’s Lane
