Finding History in the Dirt at G’s Lane
Here at G’s Lane, we’ve had some interesting finds. Over the years, we've unearthed a surprising collection of items scattered across the property — some of it junk, some of it curious, and some with a quiet kind of charm. What began as a casual find of a bit of junk has become a bit of an ongoing treasure hunt.
For the past three years, we’ve been collecting feathers from around the property. These now live in vessels we’ve found buried in the soil — Tea cup, old jars, bottles, and containers once discarded, now repurposed as little homes for the things we find beautiful.
Every time we dig, it feels like we uncover another story. Bits of wire, rusted metal tools, old drink cans, shards of glass — so much of it surfaces in unlikely spots, even away from the known rubbish pile. Some of the items are odd and quirky; others hint at a different era, when what was broken or no longer useful was simply tossed aside.
It’s a reminder that the things we leave behind don’t just disappear. As property owners, it’s important to think twice about how we dispose of our rubbish — not just for the sake of those who may come across it years later, but for the health of the environment and local wildlife too.
The photos we’ve shared here show only a small snippet of what we’ve found. There’s much more that never made it to the camera. Each piece, whether junk or treasure, tells part of the ongoing story of G’s Lane.
Until next time,
The team at G’s Lane
