Finger Lime Orchard Update – A Fruity Surprise!
Here we are again, just a few months after our last Finger Lime update — and we’re beyond excited to share some promising news from the orchard!
Out of our 22-tree Finger Lime orchard, one standout tree is stealing the spotlight. Not only is it covered in flowers, but it’s also proudly showing off some very well-sized fruit. And it’s not just one — we’ve counted approximately five developing fruits on this single tree! It’s such a great sign of progress, and a little reminder of how rewarding patience can be when working with native plants.
Fertilizer Plans: A Gentle Approach
These trees are due for another round of Bush Tucker fertilizer, but we’ll be taking a careful and considered approach.
We'll start with the other trees first, as I prefer not to fertilize when a tree is in flower or has tiny fruit (anything under 1 cm in size). We want to avoid disrupting any early fruit development or stressing the flowering branches.
As part of this next fertilizer session, we’ll also be tidying up a bit — but not doing a full dig around the base of each tree. Instead, we’ll gently pull back the existing mulch, sprinkle the Bush Tucker fertilizer, and then replace the mulch by simply pushing it back around the base. A light touch is all that’s needed here.
We’ll also take this opportunity to remove any weeds that might be lingering around — just a bit of maintenance to help keep the orchard clean and thriving.
We’re hopeful this one productive tree is a sign of things to come across the rest of the orchard. Watching the fruit and flowers develop is always a thrill, and we’ll keep you updated as things continue to grow!
Until next time — happy gardening 🌱
