They are BIG and BEAUTIFUL!

The Majestic King Pink Protea

There are truly no words that can fully capture the beauty of this flower, but a few that come to mind are big, massive, heavy, stunning, and bold yet elegant. The King Pink Protea is a flower that demands attention — a true statement piece in any paddock garden or arrangement.

These incredible blooms are fascinating to watch develop. Patience is key with these beauties, as they take their time to unfold — and honestly, I can understand why. From bud to full bloom, the process can take around six months, and even once they begin to open, it’s another week or two before the flower fully reveals itself. Watching that slow transformation is part of their charm.

We’re still learning the art of arranging them in posies — this is only our second session — and because they’re so big, it can be quite a challenge figuring out what complements them best. But the truth is, they really don’t need much else. The King Pink Protea stands proudly on its own.

Without wishing the year away, I’m already looking forward to next season. In 2024, we cut two King flowers from two different bushes (one from each). So far in 2025, we have cut three flowers, with two more developing — two on one of last year’s flowering bushes and two on a newly planted one bush last season.

We’ve also planted an extra two King Pink bushes and two King White bushes, bringing our total to nine King Protea bushes, along with many other varieties. Each year, our collection grows — and with it, our appreciation for these majestic flowers.

Here’s to another season of watching the Kings reign in the garden! 👑🌸
