Wildlife at G’s Lane, Esk

Here at G’s Lane, Esk, we’re lucky to share our space with an incredible array of wild and native animals. Of course, like anywhere in the bush, there are a few pest animals that aren’t quite as welcome—but for the most part, everyone else is. Our philosophy is simple: they’re welcome to stay as long as they go about their business and let us go about ours. When that balance is struck, everyone gets along just fine.

One of our absolute favourite sights is the gorgeous koala, perched high in a gum tree. It never gets old—no matter how many times we see it, that quiet moment of spotting a koala in its natural habitat is always special.

We’ve also been lucky enough to spot an echidna—once on the trail camera and once with our very own eyes. Both sightings were truly amazing. Alongside these iconic Australian animals, we’re regularly visited by kangaroos, wallabies, and bettongs, all of which make G’s Lane feel very much alive.

Our birdlife is just as impressive. Migration season is a particular favourite, especially when the kingfishers arrive with their striking blue feathers and long beaks. And then there’s the call of the whipbird—spectacular, unmistakable, and something we hope never fades from these hills.

We also spot a wide variety of lizards, from large goannas and frill-neck lizards to much smaller visitors like the one pictured above. Each one plays its part in the ecosystem, and we love seeing them around.

Being here is a constant reminder of how special this part of the world is—and we never take that for granted.
