From the Flower Field to the Vase: Looking Ahead to 2026 at G’s Lane Esk
From the flower field to the vase, it really is such a fun and rewarding process. As we look ahead, 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for us here at G’s Lane Esk.
We’re continuing to build on our protea field, which means there will be plenty more opportunities to pick and enjoy our beautiful blooms. Proteas remain our statement flowers, and we’ll keep expanding this collection as the backbone of our growing flower farm.
As we review this year’s order list, we’ve identified the need to bring in more filler flowers to complement our expanding protea stock and leafy foliage. While proteas steal the show, we’ve noticed we’re just missing that little something to tie everything together. To fill that gap, we’re focusing on Leucadendrons, including varieties such as Discolor, Safari Sunset, and similar types that add texture, colour, and balance to our arrangements.
Our buying and planting session is set to begin around March, and we’re aiming to grow the Protea laneway to approximately 110 Proteas and Leucadendrons. That means adding around 45 new plants—an ambitious goal, but one we’re excited to work toward.
Beyond flowers, Mr G’s Lane has his sights set on expanding the vineyard as well. At the moment, we grow just one grape variety, the Isabella grape, but we’re hoping to introduce Pink Iona grapes to the mix. This addition will bring even more diversity and charm to the property.
All in all, there’s plenty to look forward to.
Bring on the 2026 planting session—we can’t wait to see these plans come to life.
